Encanto. I have mixed feelings about this new Disney film. I love this character. She reminds me of myself a bit. Loved the songs. But there wasn’t exactly one that smashed home. Loved the idea of the roles in the family. The home. But just when it was getting good, the story fell flat. The animation is incredible. The tiny details and the colour palette were dreamy. So I’m mixed. I’m left not really knowing what to think. But I was feeling Mirabel. So here’s my version. #encanto #disney #mirabel

A few months back a kindhearted nurse held my hands. I’d gone from teaching my morning lessons with a mild headache to not being able to open my eyes without feeling like the world might explode. Turns out I get migraines. But before they decided that was the case, they were throwing around some really scary what ifs. One needed a spinal tap. Actually two because the first didn’t work out so well. The day had been a lot. I was in pain and somehow communicating my symptoms i...n a second language. I was on my own. Scared about what was going on. I couldn’t open my eyes. The light was blindingly painful. So I never saw her face. But she held my hands. She whispered that I was brave. In English. She comforted me. As the room flooded with more doctors she helped me remain calm. I tried to open my eyes. To see who she was. All I could manage was seeing our hands. To the nurse with the tattoo. If you haven’t seen @aboycalledchristmas you should really add it to your things-to-do-this-Christmas list. I am 100% here for all the @mattzhaig gem lines. The kind of sentences that roll out and yet somehow suspend in the air. I would love to drop them here. But their weight is lost. So please go watch it. Also.
