On #WorldBicycleDay, we encourage you to hop on your bike to boost your health in an affordable and sustainable way As physical activity, cycling is a powerful weapon against non-communicable diseases, as it reduces the symptoms and risks of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and some cancers. At the same time, cycling is a form of aerobic exercise, which strengthens your immune system and supports the work of your white blood cells.... Cycling also boosts your mood, reduces stress and anxiety, fights depression and supports good mental wellbeing. World Health Organization (WHO) recommends 2,5 hours of moderate physical activity per week for adults, which corresponds to 30 minutes of activity every day. By becoming more active throughout the day in relatively simple ways, such as by cycling to work, people can easily reach the recommended activity level So leave your car parked, hop on your bike and go cycling!

"A never-ending HIV pandemic is not our fate. In spite of all the set-backs, we can end AIDS as a public health threat, as we promised, by 2030, if we come together." - Winnie Byanyima, UNAIDS Executive Director. As recognised by the world leaders during the UN High-Level Meeting on AIDS held on 8 June 2021, we are not on track of eliminating AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. The global targets set for 2020 have not been met - only four countries in Europe have reache...d these targets and the COVID-19 pandemic is threatening the progress made so far. In this light, how can we make up for the lost time and deliver on our commitments to fight HIV/AIDS? POLITICO Europe is organising an event that explores this and many other questions related to ending AIDS in the European context: 29 June 2021 16:30 - 17:40 CEST Online Registration and more information: https://politi.co/3geHAsw

Investment in healthcare saves human lives - so demonstrate the findings of the NDPHS analysis on the main causes of premature death in the Northern Dimension area between 2003 and 2017. This Spring we held a series of three online seminars that explored the potential years of life lost (PYLL) in the Northern Dimension countries. Overall, the findings are promising, as they demonstrate that less and less people are dying prematurely due to non-communicable diseases, cancer,... external causes, alcohol and intentional self-harm in all the ND countries. This is a remarkable achievement which demonstrates that investment in health is invaluable. While there is still a lot of room for improvement - particularly in reference to gender and country differences - our partner countries are on the right track to reducing premature deaths. We here at the NDPHS continue to support our partners in this journey through developing evidence-based policy advice, knowledge exchange and cross-sectoral initiatives. Thank you to all of you who participated in our seminars. If you missed any of them, you can read about the findings on our website: FIN, GER, NOR & SWE https://www.ndphs.org/ EST, LVA, LTU & POL https://www.ndphs.org/ RUS & BLR https://www.ndphs.org/
